The Opportunity
Learn the wool business from the shed to the sale.
Roswell Wool Brokers is seeking a motivated college student to join our team for a hands-on internship in the American wool industry. The Student Wool Broker Assistant will gain practical experience from shearing shed to shipment while working directly with trained wool professionals and company leadership.
The role combines fieldwork, technical learning, logistics, data management, and exposure to the commercial decisions that move wool from producer to market.
Work alongside wool professionals and company leadership.
Interns receive day-to-day instruction from trained wool professionals, with regular opportunities to work directly alongside Roswell Wool Brokers company leadership — connecting field observations to producer service, logistics, wool quality, and market outcomes.

- How brokers coordinate growers, shearing crews, warehouses, testing services, buyers, and transportation providers.
- How company leaders evaluate wool, solve field and logistics challenges, and communicate with producers and customers.
Primary Responsibilities

Wool Classing & Preparation
Assist trained professionals with fleece assessment, skirting, sorting, line preparation, contamination control, and quality checks at commercial shearing sites.

Shearing-Site Support
Help set up and maintain efficient, safe wool-handling areas and communicate respectfully with producers and crews.

Shipping & Logistics
Assist with bale weighing, labeling, inventory, load preparation, shipping documents, and warehouse coordination.

Data Entry & Records
Enter and verify producer, lot, bale, weight, test, and shipment information using company systems and spreadsheets.

Market & Business Exposure
Observe wool appraisal, testing, sale preparation, buyer communication, and producer service activities.

Special Project
Complete an individual or team project on wool handling, logistics, data quality, or marketing, and present findings to leadership.

Orientation & Foundations
Company operations, workplace safety, wool terminology, quality systems, contamination prevention, professional conduct, and recordkeeping.

Field Immersion
Supervised work at shearing sites, with direct coaching in wool handling, classing support, clip preparation, and producer service.

Logistics & Data
Bale and lot records, inventory reconciliation, shipping preparation, documentation, and coordination among field sites and warehouses.

Markets & Leadership
Exposure to wool testing, valuation, sale preparation, buyer requirements, and business decisions through work with company leadership.

Capstone & Reflection
A practical project, final presentation, and feedback on professional growth and potential careers in wool, sheep production, textiles, and agricultural marketing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college program. Students in animal science, agricultural business, range science, textile science, natural resources, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
- Interest in sheep production, wool, agriculture, logistics, marketing, or the textile supply chain.
- Dependable, teachable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working as part of a team in changing field conditions.
- Strong communication, organization, and basic computer/spreadsheet skills.
- Prior livestock or wool experience is helpful but not required.
Travel, Schedule & Physical Requirements
- Based in either the San Angelo, Texas, or Bakersfield, California, area, with frequent day travel to shearing sites and possible overnight travel in the western United States.
- Schedule may include early mornings, long field days, and occasional weekends depending on shearing and shipping schedules.
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required.
- Ability to work safely around livestock, dust, noise, heat, and uneven surfaces; stand for extended periods; and repeatedly handle fleeces and other materials.
